Who we are

Goldspun Media is a new production company started in 2024, dedicated to developing, producing, and touring innovative new musicals across the UK.

Originated by a team from Bristol, it aims to unite early career writers, composers and directors to deliver bold, spell-binding, musical storytelling to new audiences.

We combine strong stories with captivating scores to deliver shows that resonate with modern audiences, championing diversity and inclusivity in every production we support.

What we do

Music has always been a powerful way to tell stories— and in musical theatre, music and words come together to create something magical.

But uniting the different strands of music, text, dance, and song into one seamless whole is an undertaking! At Goldspun, we bring music and stories together, whether it’s adding songs to a great script or creating a story to match a haunting score.

Thanks to our creative network of writers, composers, choreographers, designers and the support of our sponsors, we are able to bring these elements together, to create new musicals that everyone can enjoy.

We have strong relationships with studios and theatre spaces, who are also committed to giving new talent a chance. It is thanks to these relationships that we are able to do what we do.

Who we help

In pioneering spirit, we are able to support the development and first production of one new musical each year.  Please see our development pages for this year’s musical.

If you have an engaging and meaningful story or script and you feel that music could add something that words alone cannot, then we want to hear from you! Or, if you have a meaningful score that would benefit from a book to support it – then please get in touch. We are passionate about making sure we support early creatives - so please take a look at our submissions page to check whether you are eligible.

Once selected, we invest in the development of script/score, ensuring creativity and artistic integrity throughout our process. We operate a professional production process, providing R&D and studio time and help our chosen musical into it’s first public production. By creating a supportive space for creative teams, we aim to present fresh stories that connect with audiences and expand the limits of musical theatre.

Our People

We are nothing without our team. Musicals are about bringing together different gifts, talents and voices and we believe passionately in the spirit and practice of collaboration. This takes time, effort and care and our core values of respect, integrity and courage are at the centre of everything we do.

  • Lucy Watson

    FOUNDER/WRITER

    Lucy Watson (Writer she/her) graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with a Drama Writing MA and has written and produced numerous plays for the Edinburgh Fringe. Her satire play “The Kings New Clothes” won her a Fulbright award to work as a dramaturg at The American Repertory Theatre, Boston USA.  In addition to her writing and directing, she has a strong track record in organising events, performances and festivals. She is an experienced fundraiser with a strong track record of securing funding for charitable initiatives, creative projects, and commercial ventures.

  • Julian Kirk

    Julian Kirk

    COMPOSER/ARRANGER

    Julian Kirk (Composer, he/him) is Bath based founder of Atlas Audio, a composition, production & mastering company, with dedicated recording studios in the Chew Valley. With a strong compositional track record creating soundtracks for video games, Julian graduated in  Commercial Music at Bath Spa University. He is also founder of “Music Workshop’ a piano, music theory, group performance and songwriting school in Bath. His role at Music Workshop also includes running themed shows with multiple students of all ages at Bath Carnival, CarFest and Abbey Road Studios. 

  • Patrick Wilson

    DIRECTOR

    Patrick Wilson (Director, he/him) is a freelance director and educator.  He graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with a Masters in Drama Directing.  Patrick has been Director in Residence and Young Company Director in Cambridgeshire and has directed acclaimed productions for Fringe Festivals across the country. Among other credits, he has directed for the Edinburgh Fringe and VAULT Festival, winning an Innovation Award for his play "Rubber" at the latter.  More recently he was awarded the E Roberts Prize for Directing. He's interested in innovative new writing, experiential theatre, and has a penchant for alternative comedy. 

  • Stamatis Seraphim

    MUSICAL DIRECTOR/COMPOSER

    Stamatis (they/he) is a Greek-South African composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist and MD. Stamatis graduated from the Musical Theatre Academy (The MTA) in London and works as a drama/singing teacher, writing music for podcasts and short films, playing and performing in cabarets. Their music ranges from film and theatre soundtracks to R&B/Soul and jazz. They are Musical Supervisor for AIDA Cruises, and when not travelling, they are developing original work with actor and creative Olivier Sublet, in collaboration with Global Mosaic Foundation.

  • Jess Watson

    PERFORMANCE DESIGN

    Jess loves technically challenging and dynamic designs, which she explores in her own creative practice as a performance designer. Before studying at BOVTS, Jess worked as a Drama Assistant, designing and building sets for Reigate Grammar School and achieved a first-class BSc (Hons) in Product Design from Loughborough University. Her credits include the set design for A Very Expensive Poison (Circomedia) and the set and costume design for Hymns (Wardrobe Theatre).

  • Meadhbh Lyons

    CHOREOGRAPHER

    Meadhbh (she/her) began her training at the University of Galway before studying dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She completed an MA in Movement Direction and Teaching at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where she now works as a visiting lecturer in dance and movement.   • Jessie Millson

    Jessie Millson

    FRINGE DEVELOPMENT

    Jessie Millson is a writer and director whose play “Pressure Cooker” enjoyed a sell-out and well-received run at theSpace in 2003 after showing in London at the White Bear. The play sparked controversy within the Bristol Medical community for highlighting substance abuse amongst students, which led to a financial award from the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Fund. She has her own company and has put on plays including Hardly Working and Options at Edinburgh and Bristol Fringe theatres. Her success as Director of new musical Emu War, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, brings invaluable production experience
